Mez

This is a relatively new restaurant from the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group (Spanky’s, Squid’s, 411 West, 518 West). It got a ton of pre-open hype because the whole thing was built to LEEDS certification standards. In other words it’s green.

It’s located in RTP, which should be seriously exciting since there are very few nice places to eat in the park.

I’ve heard mixed reviews.  Anybody been there and want to comment?

  1. My daughter (born and schooled in New Mexico) has been encouraging her mother and me to try Mez, so we just had lunch there. We lived in New Mexico for many years, have pretty high standards for Mexican food and are often frustrated. Not today. I had Tacos con Pollo, she had Empanadas stuffed with jack cheese, goat cheese, fresh corn and poblana rajas (whatever that is). Half way through the meal we were already planning on bringing our other daughter here when she visits next week.

    Great setting, great food!

  2. Went for lunch today (Thursday). A long wait for a table (30 minutes) but seating right away in the bar area (non-smoking). Full menu and immediate service. Our food, once ordered, was delivered very quickly.

I had the Enchiladas de Pollo because I wanted to taste their mole sauce. The sauce was thick and rich and not overly spicy. (I’d recommend asking for extra sauce.) The red rice and beans were tasty. Overall a delicious lunch.

My wife got the soup special, a smoked salmon and squash soup (pumpkin?). Very, very good! She had the Verde Salad which was just the right size and flavorful.

    Our bill came to $21.
